About Me
Viktoria Melinder is a textile artist and hand weaver, resident in the High Coast, Sweden. She is educated at Handarbetets vänner, a textile crafts school in Stockholm. She designs and manufactures textiles for private homes and public environments.
Her textiles have been purchased by private individuals, companies and public institutions and her work has been shown both in Sweden and abroad.
Viktoria mainly works with hand weaving and embroidery. Slow techniques, deeply rooted in cultural heritage and women's history.
In the rigid systems of the weave she works to find her own ways and expressions.
In some projects, Viktoria works with tufting. A technique where you, by using compressed air, "shoot" yarn through a tensioned fabric.
The craftsmanship, material and time are building blocks in Viktoria's work.
Unique items and small series of interior textiles are carefully crafted in natural materials. The materials is often dyed, sometimes with plant colors, and she finds inspiration in older textiles and crafts, in technics and materials or in nature.
Viktoria hopes that her textiles can convey the low-key poetry of everyday life.
